Two Australian fintech companies have beaten entrants from across the world to be selected among five finalists in a global payments industry challenge, where they will work to develop new cross-border solutions for thousands of banks. Assembly Payments and CurrencyVue have been selected to take part in the SWIFT gpi Industry Challenge in Singapore on 13-14 September. As part of this challenge, the two well-established financial technology companies will work with 30 banks to develop new services for SWIFT’s more than 11,000 financial institution members across 200 countries, leveraging its SWIFT global payment innovation (gpi) service. FlashFX first off the block to use blockchain for international money transfers and launch into Asia

H2 Ventures eyes global expansion and data and AI start-ups after fresh intake
Sydney-based fintech accelerator H2 Ventures is preparing to take its program international and expand into artificial intelligence and big data after doubling its intake of startups. The accelerator brings on startups, which receive $100,000 in return for a 10 per cent stake in their company, and in exchange they partake in a program that runs for 20 weeks, based out of Stone & Chalk in Sydney. IRESS launches XPLAN iAssist
IRESS has launched XPLAN iAssist to further strengthen support available to XPLAN users. XPLAN iAssist will allow users to grant an IRESS support team member temporary and secure access to their individual XPLAN session within a few seconds. Banks trial blockchain solution to speed up guarantee process
ANZ and Westpac have teamed up with IBM and Westfield shopping centre owner Scentre Group to bring the bank guarantee process up to speed using blockchain technology. The trial, powered by IBM’s Hyperledger Fabric platform, replaces the paper-based bank guarantee process used for commercial property leasing with a digital ledger that becomes the central source of information for all parties.
