Fintech Stake launches Christmas gift cards for US shares

Forget movie or David Jones vouchers for Christmas — Aussies can now gift shares in some of the world’s largest companies, from Tesla to Amazon or Apple, to their loved ones.

Stake, the Aussie shop for shares, today became the first company in Australia to offer gift cards for US company shares, allowing recipients to redeem them for US shares or Exchange-Traded Fund (industry jargon for leaving it to the experts) of their choice. After massive customer demand and a successful beta launch, the gift cards provide people with a viable alternative to socks and undies.

And now the whole family can benefit too: Stake has also launched Stake Kids, allowing investors of all ages and sizes to get started. Parents, aunties, uncles and grandparents can set up a kids account on Stake and kickstart the investment and education journey for under 18s.

“We’ve seen overwhelming demand since launch from Australians eager to expand investment portfolios into the global market. Our new gift cards lets them to take their friends and family along on the journey too,” said Stake founder and CEO, Matt Leibowitz.

“Gifting shares shows someone you’re invested in their future. We’re launching just in time for Christmas to lend a helping hand with those hard-to-buy-for family members. It’s free to buy US shares on Stake, unheard of in this economy, and we’re hoping to open up the gateway to the US stock market for more and more Australians as we grow – the gift cards are a small step on that road.”

Think investing is only for financially savvy adults? Think again.

“As an aunty buying gifts for my teenage nieces and nephews, I am acutely aware of how quickly we all accumulate ‘stuff’. And inevitably ‘stuff’ becomes landfill and that’s not good for anyone. So the idea of being able to invest in their future instead was a welcome one for me,” said Laura Bock, a Stake customer who has bought several Stake gift cards for her young nieces.

“The Stake gift cards are a fun way to invest in their future while getting them interested and engaged with following the progress of their shares. There is something more exciting about gifting shares than cash and you can personalise the gift by choosing shares in a company that reflects the recipient’s interests and values.”

“You can spend as little or as much as you like, depending on the occasion.”

Stake Kids accounts are accessible through personal accounts. Customers can set up an account on behalf of an under 18 to help the whole family begin their investment journey.

The Stake gift cards will be available online at Stake.com.au immediately and can be bought in any dollar amount, from as little as USD$10 all the way to USD$500.
