5. In one sentence, what does your fintech do?: Automate bill payments by extracting invoice details, checking for fraud and paying using card or bank accounts.
6. How / why did you start your fintech company?: The co-founders were in a pub talking about the idea after missing some bills. We wanted to make our life admin easier, then Gobbill was used by our families and friends. It grew from there.
7. What the best thing your company has achieved or learnt along the way (this can include awards, capital raising etc)?: The best thing we have achieved is our customers recommending us to others. More recently, we have been able to help those in the NDIS space to automate invoice payments and providing audit/reporting capabilities. The human side of how automation technology can help our communities goes beyond the cap raising and awards for us.
8. What’s some advice you’d give to an aspiring start-up?: Find great people with the right skills and experience but more importantly aligned with your values to help develop your idea.
9. What’s next for your company? And are you looking to expand overseas or stay focussed on Australia?: We are focused on our partners, bookkeepers and accountants to help steer and grow Gobbill. Overseas such as the UK is also in our plans.
10. What other fintechs or companies do you admire?: Myprosperity and iSignthis for their resilience, long term strategic view and persevering through no matter what.
11. What’s the most interesting or funniest moment that’s happened in your company’s lifetime?: We were working out of the Mitre Tavern (Melbourne pub) in the first week for free wifi. Quentin spilt a whole pint on his surface pro and himself leading us to get a proper office.
