Fintech industry not recognising scope of sector – FinTech Awards will change this attitude
Founder of the Australian FinTech Awards, Glen Frost, says, “I come across too many people in the sector who are giving a narrow definition of fintech – the fintech sector must be more inclusive of newcomers!”
“The FinTech Industry needs to embrace all these new categories of fintech – and in the future that includes embracing Facebook’s new Libra digital currency and wallet,” said Frost.
“I’ve met startups who have been told by senior people in the industry that they’re not fintech- when they clearly are – this elitist attitude needs to change – so here’s how I evaluate them – if the startup’s business is in helping people or business or Government with financial transactions, lending, saving, payments, securitization, insurance, asset valuation and transfers, digital currencies, investment; using Ai or Regulatory tech for any of these, either B2C or B2B; retail or wholesale – then they’re fintech,” said Frost
According to Frost, “The FinTech sector is booming and so we’ve added more categories to The FinTech Awards so everyone has the opportunity to be recognized for their achievements and success,” said Frost.
“The FinTech Awards has expanded to 16 categories, which reflects the growth of fintech covering areas such as Ai (Artificial Intelligence), Property (Proptech), Insurance (InsureTech) and Regulatory (RegTech),” added Frost.
