Blackhawk Network, a global financial technology company and a leader in payment technologies and solutions, announce today that leading Payments executive, George Lawson, will be joining Blackhawk Australia as Managing Director, Commerce Australia.

Lawson will lead Blackhawk’s retail and commerce teams in Australia, looking to strengthen and deepen our relationships with our retail and commercial partners, and drive the ongoing engagement and adoption of our digital payment solutions. George brings over 30 years’ professional experience, and over 10 years in Banking and Payment businesses, including holding senior roles at Westpac (as Head of Merchant Acquiring, and Head of Strategy for Product and Operations), Visa (as Head of Emerging Products and Innovation), and most recently as Country Manager ANZ for Alipay.

“We are lucky to welcome George to the Blackhawk team. He brings an immense amount of expertise in building robust payments platforms, for startups, all the way through to established, market leading businesses,” said Mark Singer, (Managing Director, APAC). “His recent experience in growing Alipay into the payments force it is in this country is testament to his ability to develop deep, robust relationships with his customers and partners, bringing these businesses along an innovation journey, and seamlessly embedding new, rapidly evolving payments technologies into their organisations, to meet their customer demands.”

Lawson is very enthusiastic about the opportunity saying “I’m very excited to join Blackhawk Network. I see stored value payments as an exciting market segment and is experiencing strong market growth. Further, Blackhawk has an incredibly strong franchise in market with both content and distribution partners, supported by a great organisational reputation.

More importantly, I was particularly impressed with the Blackhawk team; their strong leadership and expertise has built an incredible business, supported by a strong culture emanating through its people. I’m thrilled to join this passionate team and look forward to utilise my experience in payments and wallets to drive the next phase of growth for the business.”

Lawson joins Blackhawk’s team of payments industry leaders across the APAC region, including Mark Singer, Peter Malycon (Regional Vice President, Incentives), and David Jackson (Regional Vice President, Operations & Technology), all supporting the growth of Blackhawk’s broad portfolio of payment solutions.
