- Key Staff & Titles: Sean O’Meara – CEO
- Location(s):Melbourne
- In one sentence, what does your fintech do?:
With just one integration to Doshii’s API platform, merchants can connect a variety of Apps using the Doshii marketplace, to their Doshii Certified POS system. Doshii is an open platform – any Venue, App or POS can use it.
- How / why did you start your fintech company?:
With so much change being driven by the Apps, and with such large fragmentation across POS systems, we want to help venues take back control, gain insights, reduce costs and increase revenue by providing a better experience via using the Doshii marketplace and platform to connect.
- What the best thing your company has achieved or learnt along the way (this can include awards, capital raising etc)?:
Earning the trust and respect to connect 1,000’s of venues with Apps like Deliveroo, investments from Reinventure and Coca-Cola Amatil with a platform that has proven solid for 3+ years.
- What’s some advice you’d give to an aspiring start-up?:
Work hard, perservere and iterate, fail and learn fast.
- What’s next for your company? And are you looking to expand overseas or stay focussed on Australia?:
Connecting more POS systems, Apps and venues locally and expanding into Asia.
- What other fintechs or companies do you admire?:
Companies like Deliveroo, Coca-Cola Amatil, C.U.B., Assembly Payments, Grab and Go-Jek and all of our POS and App partners who are questioning the market, their business-models and investing in bold new directions that will ultimately help consumers.
- What’s the most interesting or funniest moment that’s happened in your company’s lifetime?:
The name and how this originated. We were originally called Meerkat. However, when we were about to launch and App was then released called Meerkat. We always liked the idea of having a name that resonated with a character. After a few office beers several years ago we had some names flying around. Someone yelled out ‘Yoshi’ as in the character from Super Mario. We liked this a lot and then decided that Dosh (as in money) was better suited as we knew that at eventually Doshii would provide connectivity for Apps to connect ordering and payments to POS. So, Doshii was born.
