At just 23, Olivia is not your typical fintech entrepreneur

Olivia Molesworth realises she’s not your typical fintech entrepreneur.

“It has certainly been a challenge at times,” the 23-year-old founder of Bromleigh Capital says. “I didn’t think about my age until it got to capital raising and I realised I was young for the industry.”

After working in several ecommerce startups, Molesworth saw the trouble fledgling businesses had getting funding.

She spotted an opportunity to develop a risk assessment strategy based on accessing data through online trade platforms such as Shopify, Squarespace and WooCommerce that would allow her business to loan money to very early stage companies. Companies that traditional lenders might not touch due to the lack of data.

“I was familiar with the space, so, the idea was using real time data to work that into the risk assessment process,” she says.

“It was building on the existing model and existing lenders look at financial statements and returns which doesn’t give a full picture, especially for young businesses with not a lot of trading history. We look at real time sales data and inventory data.”

Molesworth raised $1 million from private and angel investors and launched Bromleigh Capital last year from her kitchen table.
