Australian SMEs are turning to alternative sources of funding

New research shows Aussie businesses are embracing online lending and P2P, but many are still not getting the loan they want. Australian businesses are turning to crowdfunding, peer-to-peer (P2P) lending and online loans for finance, according to new research from Businessloans.com.au. The Small Business Credit Survey, conducted by ACA Research, found that the most sought-after alternative funding source was equity finance (34%), followed closely by online lenders (30%) and P2P business loans (21%). Aura High Yield Fund backs Banjo lending

It’s a busy time in the fintech and marketplace lending industry as a raft of players look to step up their financing efforts. Street Talk understands the The Aura High Yield SME Fund has made its maiden investment by providing a revolving loan facility to fintech company Banjo Loans. That comes as ASX-listed marketplace lender DirectMoney is set to announce – as early as Wednesday – a new wholesale funding agreement with 255 Finance, a subsidiary of Challenger. Prospa raises $20m from Partners for Growth

Online business lender Prospa has raised $20 million from Silicon Valley-based Partners for Growth through a tailored debt facility that will allow it to ramp up loans and further develop its technology allowing credit assessments to be made in seconds. Prospa, which has lent more than $400 million to small businesses, up from $250 million in February after a strong fourth quarter, has deals with 4000 distribution partners, including finance brokers and cloud accounting platforms. Prospa’s Telstra Business Award win puts the fintech sector ‘on the map’, says co-founder

Peer-to-peer lending remains unfamiliar for borrowers and investors

IT’S one of the fastest-growing financial products in Australia but two-thirds of us still have no idea what peer-to-peer lending is. New research by Finder.com.au has found despite the sector growing from one to eight lenders since it launched in Australia in 2012, 65 per cent of consumers don’t know about it and women are less likely than men to understand and use it.
